Turfing & Garden Tidy Ups in Galston & across East Ayrshire
Most gardens do not need redesigned. They need a hard day of somebody who is not scared of them.
A tidy up is the job that changes how a house feels from the pavement. Borders edged, beds cleared, hedges taken back to a line, the moss and the mess lifted, and everything away in the van.
John also lays new turf — which is mostly about what happens before the turf arrives. Ground levelled, old grass and roots off, a proper bed prepared. Rolling green turf onto bad ground just gives you the same lawn in a different colour.
What a tidy up covers
- Beds and borders cleared and edged back to a line
- Overgrown shrubs cut back and shaped
- New turf laid on ground that has been properly prepared first
- Bare or mossy patches lifted and re-turfed
- Leaves, cuttings and years of accumulated garden rubbish taken away
- A rental or a house going on the market brought back up to scratch
How the job goes
No surprises and nothing starts before you know the price.
- LookA walk round the garden and a straight answer on what a day will get you. Free.
- ClearThe rough stuff out first — growth, roots, rubbish.
- PrepareLevelled and prepared properly if turf is going down.
- FinishEdges cut in, turf laid and firmed, and every bit of waste away.
What it costs
Tidy ups are usually priced by the day, and John will tell you honestly how many days he thinks your garden is. Turfing is priced by the area plus the ground preparation it needs.
Waste removal is included — it goes in the van, it does not sit in bags at your gate waiting on a special uplift.
Common questions
When is the best time to lay turf in Scotland?
Autumn and spring are ideal — the ground is warm and damp and the turf knits in without you having to water it every night. Summer turfing works fine too, it just needs watering.
Do I need to water new turf?
Yes, properly, for the first few weeks — more than you think, and right through, not a sprinkle on top. John will tell you exactly what yours needs before he leaves.
Can you do a tidy up in one visit?
Most gardens, yes. A garden that has been left for years is usually a two day job, and that is closer to a jungle clearance.
Do you take all the waste away?
Yes. Green waste, old turf and garden rubbish all leave with him.
Do you do regular maintenance or just one-offs?
Both. Plenty of people get the big tidy up first and then have John back for grass cutting through the season.
