Tree Work & Hedge Trimming in Galston & across East Ayrshire
The cutting is the quick part. It is the volume of stuff on the ground afterwards that catches people out.
Hedges taken back to a line and kept there, branches reduced off a roof or a neighbour, overhanging growth cleared off a path or a drive. John cuts it and — this is the bit that matters — he takes it away.
He is honest about the limit. Trimming, reductions and small tree work he does. A large tree that needs felled, or anything with a Tree Preservation Order on it, is a job for a qualified arborist and he will tell you that rather than have a go.
What he takes on
- Hedges cut back to height and squared up
- Branches overhanging a roof, a gutter or a neighbour cut back
- Growth cleared off a path, a drive or a boundary fence
- Small trees and self-seeded saplings taken out
- Leylandii brought back down to a manageable height
- All the cuttings and branch waste taken away in the van
How the job goes
No surprises and nothing starts before you know the price.
- LookWhat is coming off, where it lands, and where the van can get to. Free.
- SayIf it is a job for a tree surgeon rather than a handyman, you get told.
- CutTaken back to the line you agreed, not the line that was easiest.
- ClearCuttings and branches loaded and away. That is the half people forget.
What it costs
Priced after a look, because access is most of it — a hedge along a front garden and the same hedge behind a locked back gate are not the same job.
Waste is included in the price John gives you. He does not clear it and then hand you a separate bill for taking it away.
Common questions
When should a hedge be cut?
Late summer through to early spring for most hedges. Bird nesting season runs roughly March to August, and it is an offence to disturb an active nest — so if there is a nest in it, it waits.
How far back can I cut a neighbour’s branches?
Generally to the boundary line, and the cuttings technically belong to them. In practice a word over the fence first saves a lot of grief, and John will tell you what he sees.
Can you fell a big tree?
No. Large fellings need a qualified tree surgeon with the right insurance, and some trees are legally protected. John does trimming, reductions and small trees, and he will tell you straight when yours is over that line.
Do you take all the branches away?
Yes. It is included, and it is the reason most people phone rather than doing it themselves.
Do you do it as a regular thing?
Yes — plenty of hedges get done once or twice a year on the same arrangement.
