Small Demolition in Galston & across East Ayrshire
Taking it down is an afternoon. Getting rid of it is the actual job.
Old sheds, collapsing garages, redundant walls, rotten decking, concrete bases and the greenhouse nobody has used since 2009. John takes them down and — the part that stops most people doing it themselves — takes them away.
One thing he will always check before he starts: older garages, garage roofs and shed roofs in Scotland can contain asbestos cement sheeting. If yours looks like it does, he stops and tells you, because that is a licensed job and not a handyman one.
What comes down
- Old timber and concrete sectional sheds
- Prefab and sectional garages that are past it
- Redundant garden walls and gate posts
- Rotten decking taken out and the ground made good
- Concrete bases broken out and cleared
- Greenhouses, coal bunkers and old outbuildings
How the job goes
No surprises and nothing starts before you know the price.
- LookWhat it is built of, what is in it, and how the van gets to it. Free.
- CheckAsbestos cement gets flagged before anything is touched, not after.
- DownTaken apart in order rather than pulled over in one go.
- AwayLoaded and gone, and the ground left clear and level.
What it costs
Priced after a look. Volume, what it is made of, and how far it has to be carried are what decide it.
Removal and disposal are included in the price. Where there is a big volume of it, John’s other business, Johns Waste Management, handles the uplift side and the two get joined up so you are only dealing with one person.
Common questions
My garage roof might be asbestos. Can you still take it down?
Not the asbestos part. Asbestos cement sheeting is common on garages and sheds of a certain age, and removing it is a licensed specialist job. John will identify it, stop, and point you at somebody who can — he will not take a chance with it and he will not charge you for finding out.
Do I need permission to demolish a shed or garage?
For most domestic sheds and garages, no. It can be different in a conservation area or on a listed property, and East Ayrshire Council are the people to ask. John will flag it if your job looks like one of those.
Do you break out the concrete base as well?
Yes, if you want it gone. Some people leave the base for a new shed to sit on — tell John which and he will price it that way.
Do you take everything away?
Yes. It goes in the van and it is disposed of properly. That is the whole reason people phone rather than doing it themselves.
How much notice do you need?
Give him a phone on 07914 022612. Small demolition jobs are usually straightforward to get into the diary.
